Im sure I have submitted this before, but my working theory is that the drive in screen was portable, and that maybe they set it up in the church parking lot one year, in one field another year, et cetera. I have a 1959 topo map that doesnt show a drive in for Mikado, so that is why I assumed that the Mikado DI was gone by 1959.

In an effort to determine the exact locations of the Mikado Drive-In, I purchased a 1951 aerial photo of the Mikado area. There does not seem to be any indication of an obvious drive-in field, at least not the traditional pie-shaped design with outlines for the ramps. As this theatre was supposedly closed as of 1959, it is hard to imagine that it opened some time after 1951, moved 3 times and was gone by 1959.

The Mikado Drive-In charged $1. 00 per carload by the time it closed. A repair shop is about where the driveways were.
1/6/2003 - MichiganDriveIns.com
Mikado Drive-In as closed by 1959. No trace remains. (Bobby Peacock 7-4-02).
