I was one of the ushers/security in the early 80s. Roger, Dennis,me and some crazy hillbilly who's name escapes me tried to keep people from sneaking in and popping out of trunks. We dealt with drunks, punks, and crazies very night. The blues Brothers ran all summer and was one of my faves. I brought my boxing gloves one night and took on The others.
It was good practice.

Wow. the good ole Galaxy. Remember it well. I lived on 10 mile near Couzens, could see the screen from my back yard. Before I-696, I had friends on Kenneth Street and we use to walk down as far as we could and try to listen to the movies.
Once 696 started to be constructed, many of those friends had to move due to their homes being in the path. Shame so many of the good ole drive-in's are gone. Kids these days will never have that experience of heading to the consession stand, playing on the swings on the playground or sitting in your car untill those bright lights came on after the movie. great memories.
And use to hit them all, the Oak, Troy, Bel-Aire, Van Dyke, etc.

I grew up in Madison Heights and work in the concession stand at the Galaxy. One of the funniest jobs around. The manager's name was Ron and was a big hippy. ET played the whole entire summer.

I grew up on Miracle Drive. We used to sit in my backyard and watch the movies. I remember sneaking in through the holes in the fences after cutting through the fields.

Correction~~~ I was wrong about the Trailer Park being park of the Drive-In property. I see that on the Ariel View picture. But they do have the old playground stuff at the Trailer Park.

The Tech Park is where the North half of the Drive-In used to be. The Trailer Park next door is where the South Half used to be. The Trailer Park even has the old playground stuff I think they even still have the old building from the Drive-In?.

I went there in the 70''s and 80''s as a kid. We used to watch some movies from Barrett St!Great place to hang out when I was a teenager just before it closed in 86. I saw Jaws, Smokey and the Bandit, Star Wars, ET, Rambo etc. I only lived a half mile away on Harwood!.

We lived on East Dallas growing up and everyone went to the Galaxy. Many times we would stand in the middle of dallas to see what was playing. I grew up in the 70''s. It was a sad day when they closed.

The ZIP for the Galaxy is 48071. When I-696 was built in the early-mid 70s, there were times you could see the movie speeding by.
