I went here all the time as a kid. I love seeing these old pictures! The sign on Opdyke was truly magical as a kid. It closed after the summer of my graduation and me and friends used to take my dad''s truck and sit in the back and watch the movies. I don''t remember the last movie I saw there as I never realized it would close. They seemed to do good business.
The new Showcase that took it''s place sure didn''t last long. Maybe 10 years or so. I take my family to the Ford-Wyoming now. It''s a bit of a drive, but worth the experience!.

I remember driving way out to the Blue Sky. Before the movie they had local bands playing. Toad and the Mushrooms is one that comes to mind. Does anyone else remember this?.

Ive been doing some research on Detroit area D/Is and came up with this regarding the Blue Sky in Pontiac: Opened May 28, 1948. First movie shown: FUN ON A WEEKEND with Eddie Bracken and Priscilla Lane, plus Technicolor shorts--this from an advertisment in the Pontiac Press. The last listing I can find in the Oakland Press is for a September 10, 1987 pairing of HAMBURGER HILL with THE UNTOUCHABLES. Ill try and send along more info as I can get it.
