Was Butterfield House

The Oakland Theatre had the largest stage in Pontiac, described as big enough to stage the original road show of Ben Hur. It was built in 1919 as a vaudeville house. It burned down on October 26, 1960.

The Oakland Theatre was destroyed by fire. Arson may have been suspected . . but the possibility never became an issue.

The Oakland Theatre was Pontiacs largest & finest. It had cascading seats with no official balcony . . and no obstructions. Every seat was ideal. Stage productions included Blackstone & His 1,001 Wonders and annual Miss Pontiac beauty contests. Theatre was located at southeast corner of Saginaw & Water Streets.
