General Information:

The Sun opened in 1931 and was going head-to-head with the Grand Theater which was a Butterfield house. A fire at the Grand destroyed the projection equipment so that gave the Sun an advantage. 7 years after the opening the theater was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Phillips. They began to further modernize the theater. The Sun instituted a "dish night" which was a popular promotional idea in the depression era.

Eventually the theater changed hands again and was taken over by Harold and Virginia Phillips who worked at the theater. They eventually sold the place in 1980 to father and son team Richard and Randy Ackerman. Sadly Richard passed away 1 year later. Randy sold the theater once again in 1989 to Chuck and Sandy Pantera who in turn sold it to Derek and Jessica Bennett in 1999.

The Bennet's owned the theater for 9 years and put in some nice upgrades while keeping the admission 2 dollars (wow!). In 2008, Chuck Pantera bought the theater back and he has owned it ever since as of 2022. He upgraded the projector to digital and installed a new "retro" marquee which is fantastic.
