Entry Date: 1/5/2010 - jake: I went to several concerts there in the Early 90''s. I saw Clutch open for like 4 different bands all at the Capitol. I saw Sepultura, Rob Halfords band fight among others.
The place was pretty run down but it was plenty of great memories for me. I''m glad it hasn''t been torn down.
Entry Date: 4/5/2009 - Melissa: I heard that this theatre is going to re-open soon after the renovation. I live in Burton, so I really don''t know how much they have "renovated" it yet. They say that they are working on these places in Flint, but they never really get going on them. I wish it would open!
Entry Date: 6/24/2007 - Dan: I remeber watching local flint punk bands playing
there in the mid 80''s to early 90''s.
The place was starting to get run down but you could look through it and see the beauty it once was.
Entry Date: 6/20/2007 - Paula: John R, The first time I ever heard about the Capitol Theater was in 1994, maybe 95.
It was due to the fact that a one-hit wonder band was to play there.
At that time and age, I knew nothing about downtown Flint, except where Longway Planetarium and the main Flint Public Library was located at.
So I am pretty sure that concerts went on there.
Entry Date: 1/23/2007 - Jon C.: Below is a link to the web page for the Paramount Theatre, which is in Anderson, IN.
The Paramount is also a John Eberson theatre that was renovated, in the early 1990's, meticulously back to its original design.
This place is unbelievable!
The sky transforms from evening into night complete with twinkling stars! Hopefully the Capitol will see the same fate.

Entry Date: 3/15/2006 - Ken Sherman: There is an interesting new website put up by the owners regarding the eventual restoration of the Capitol.
There are some sweet pictures and a video.
It is not finished yet but has been updated twice since I found out about it today.

Entry Date: 2/7/2005 - John R.: If Flints Capitol Theater was closed in 1976, as stated, was it ever re-opened, showing living events, such as concerts?
I remember going to see Alien Sex Fiend (80/90s gothic punk rock band) at The Capitol Theater in Flint back in 1992!
just curious!
Entry Date: 11/28/2004 - Ken Sherman: Things are looking up for the Capitol Theater.
Recently, thatnks to $50,000 in matching funds by Flints Facade Restoration program, weather damaged brick was replaced on the outside of the building and the verticle part of the marquee was repainted.
From what I understand they are looking into replacing the neon on the marquee alos if funds permit.
I just wish they would remove that hideous third story addition on the wast side of the building.
Entry Date: 2/18/2003 - Web: In the 1920s, two of the biggest names in entertainment came together, theater mogul W. S. Butterfield and architect John Eberson.
Together they created a litany of classic theatres including the State Theatre in Kalamazoo, the Majestic in San Antonio, Texas Constellation, and Flints Capitol Theatre.

"The Capitol Theatre is an atmospheric type theatre whose interior design incorporates diverse Mediterranean architectural elements, executed on a grand scale.
The Capitol Theatre is an outstanding example of 1920s theater architecture and one that epitomizes the atmospheric theatre concept of its architecture.
The Capitol was the seventy-fourth theatre in the Butterfield Theatre chain.
At its completion in 1928, it was Flint’s largest theatre and among Butterfields most lavish.
The Capitol Theatre is significant for its direct association with two of Americas foremost innovators in theatre management and design and for its grandiose architectural character".

The original program opening the Capitol Theatre began with this greeting: "Welcome to the Capitol Theatre, a touch of Italy transferred in its seductive charms to the City of Flint. Here ancient culture and art rub shoulders with the ultra-modern art of the cinema.
With a heavy handclasp, we bid you a cordial welcome and trust that the hours spent within the shrine of entertainment will be the means of making your days more joyful.
It will even be our purpose to provide the best in music, photoplays and stage presentations of the ultra in the field variety".

The Capitol Theatres past and future destiny is truly a shrine of entertainment. This wonderful building has been recognized and is listed in the local, state, and national list of historic places.
The current owners have perfectly preserved the property over the past twenty-two years and the time has come to restore this facility.
It will serve as one of the channels to the revitalization of downtown Flint.
Entry Date: 1/6/2003 - Cinema Treasures: Like many institutions in economically depressed Flint, the Capitol Theater is now closed.
The Capitol is an atmospheric theater designed to resemble a Roman courtyard.

Entry Date: 1/6/2003 - Cinema Tour: This theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
