Visited Saturday night, all references to National Amusements have been removed with the exception of the box office. They now serve Coca - Cola instead of Pepsi. They also stripped the concession menu down to almost nothing but popcorn, candy, and soda.

National Amusements is in the process of selling this theatre to Rave Cinemas in Dallas. They are buying a total of 35 theatres from National Amusements, and the acquisition will give them 65 theatres and approximately 1000 screens in their chain. With the sale, National Amusements (a. k. a.

Showcase Cinemas) will lose its last theatre in the state of Michigan. The sale should close some time in the summer of 2010. It is so nearly completed that they have started to call it a Rave Cinema already. The corporate web site is www.

Just an update in the size of this facility upon opening - it was built as a 14 screen complex. I was part of the opening management team and had a blast.

Before the 1998 expansion, with usual theater-style seating, capacity was 4625. After adding 6 new theaters and making them all stadium-style, current capacity is 5876.

On June 11, 2004, remodeling number four was completed and opened. S/C A2 now features a Nathans Famous and Sbarro Pizzaria franchise in their cafe, along with the Pretzel Depot which has been open since 2001. Additionally, all concession menu boards got a facelift, and new till networking installed. NA clearly has no intention of closing this theater any time soon, as all of the money for the Michigan area is going to A2, while the few left in the Detroit area (Beacon East, Dearborn, Westland) suffer. However, the Flint group is still doing well.

There are two ditches where the screens from the University Drive-In originally rose, and they are still very present on the site today and look very odd to those who dont know the history of the site. This location has gone through more renovations than almost any other Showcase. Originally, upon opening in 1988, depending on who you ask, it was either a 10 or 14-plex, can never get a straight answer on that. Beginning in the Summer of 97, the building was completely renovated and remodeled, adding stadium-style seating, and 6 new theaters. This addition also relocated the lobby.

In 2001, the building was again remodeled on the inside to add the Movie Walk Cafe. And, in the next two weeks, it will be remodeled AGAIN, moving and expanding the cafes.
