They have added a Super EMAX auditorium in the theater, like the auditorium at Emagine Novi. The Canton Super EMAX opened with The Rise of Skywalker. The Canton & Novi screens are the biggest in Michigan.

A recent site inspection revealed that construction is well underway. It appears to be very similar to the eMagine Novi in design.

Tuesday, December 30, 2003 Movies to star at megaplex New home, business construction attracted Emagine Entertainment to Canton Township By Maureen Feighan / The Detroit News CANTON TOWNSHIP — A long-awaited, 18-screen movie megaplex with plush seats, digital sound and a huge lobby is finally on its way in Canton Township. Officials from Troy-based Emagine Entertainment broke ground this month on Emagine Canton, a 72,966-square-foot movie theater on the south side of Ford Road, a quarter-mile east of Interstate 275. The massive theater has been in the planning stages for more than a year but briefly was stalled by glitches with the parking lot, which also falls in Westland. Now, with approval in place from both Canton and Westland, work is under way and should be completed by summer. The complex will include 3,800 seats and a 22,000-square-foot lobby with roughly 20 concession stations.

It will be nearly identical to the Emagine theater off 12 Mile in Novi’s Fountain Walk. “The lobby will be a little bit bigger, but it’s almost an exact replica,” said Ruth Daniels, vice president of sales and marketing for Emagine Entertainment. Daniels said Emagine picked Canton for its newest theater because of all the homes and businesses under construction. Canton’s population has surged 8 percent since 2000, from 76,366 to 82,468, according to estimates from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

“If you drive around there, it’s amazing to see all the new construction,” Daniels said. “(But) it’s an underserved market as far as movies. People go to Livonia or Ypsilanti or Downriver. ” Township Supervisor Thomas Yack is looking forward to Canton’s new addition, especially since Emagine recently donated $25,000 toward the township’s new performance arts center, which also is under construction.

He thinks it will be a major boon to area restaurants. “People combine the two,” Yack said. “So Emagine plans to do a lot of work offering packages with the restaurants. We’ll be cross-marketing with (Emagine) as well.

” And because the theater is still months from completion, Yack isn’t sure how it will affect Canton’s current movie complex, Cinema Six. Yack said earlier that the theater’s operators submitted plans to upgrade the theaters and build a seventh, but those plans since have been withdrawn.

Emagine breaks ground on 18-screen theater in Canton Twp. From the Crains Detroit Business Newsroom December 17 13:25:00, 2003 - By Brent Snavely Emagine Entertainment Inc. plans to break ground at 4 p. m. today on an 18-screen movie theater in Canton Township just east of I-275 and on the south side of Ford Road.

The $16. 7 million, 25-acre project is the third theater for Troy-based Emagine. The company also owns Cinema Hollywood in Birch Run and Emagine Novi at Fountain Walk in Novi. Emagine Entertainment originally had hoped to break ground earlier this year and have Emagine Canton open by November.

The development process is a lengthy one, and by the time we finally got all of our permits. it took a bit longer than we had hoped, Emagine President Paul Glantz said. Now, Glantz is eager to complete the project and hopes to have Emagine Canton open by summer.

Emagine Canton will have 3,800 seats. In addition, the two largest auditoriums, with 60-foot screens, will contain luxury seating. All auditoriums will be accessible to people with disabilities and equipped with listening devices for the hearing-impaired.
