Simply the finest theatre in the thumb on par or better than any theater in the metro area only 3 screens but hey its a small town awesome setup.

This is the best Weve been going to Imlay City and Lapeer the past few years, but well be going to the Firebird from now on. Curved screen and the sound made our experience the best. The seating is also terrific.

Now showing Sandusky cinema ready for an audience By JAMIE CARRACHER For movie fans in Sandusky, the years since Sanilac Theater burned down in 2000 might have left them thirsting for a good flick like a lost man in the desert. But, fear not, an oasis is opening. Within it, youll find a candy, popcorn and pop paradise -- not to mention a larger-than-life Penélope Cruz, who stars in Sahara. Thats just one of four movies hitting the three new big screens today at Firebird Theaters in Sandusky. You can see a movie the way its meant to be seen here, developer Steve Kursinsky said.

Kursinskys family also owns the Hi-Way Drive-In theater in Washington Township, which will open as usual this summer. Also set to premier this week are The Amityville Horror, XXX: State of the Union and Robots. Kursinsky said he hopes to draw viewers from all over the area. With reclining stadium-style seating and state-of-the-art sound, youll need to go down to the Detroit area to find such an experience, he added.

And he has. For many years, Kursinsky and his brother would go down to Detroit every couple of weeks to watch movies. Frequenting those theaters helped him envision a theater closer to home. Its just a certain expectation of how a movie can be played, he said.

Thats kind of why we built it, and how we built it. Locally, the idea of having an all-year theater sounded pretty good to Ron Rich, store director of Jerrys Foodland in Sandusky. I think the town as a whole is excited about the movie theater, he said, adding he had not heard anything negative about the new theater. The hope is the new movie theater will stir business for other merchants in the area.

I think that anything that can bring people in to town can have a positive impact, he said.
