thank you for posting this picture of the loop theater. my mother was the cashier/ticket sales until it closed. i can remember walking to the theater as a little girl of 4 or 5yrs. can''t imagine doing that today! we lived on 8th street parallel to tigr stadium. it was my guide back home.

hope to find more pictures of the area in the 1948-1950''s.

Thanks for the info about the loop. The first show I saw a movie at I think it was Frankenstein 1949 or 1950.

Designed by H. D. Ilgenfritz and opened in 1928, this small 550-seat theater operated as a 24-hour house, and was popular with second-and-third shift workers. Its most notable feature was its large vertical marquee, towering over the unassuming facade, and topped by a circle with a bright red star in it, its name spelled out below. After nearly three decades in operation, the Loop was closed in 1956 and has since been razed.

June 1959 - The two houses that remain in the old Associated Theatres operation, may vanish soon. The Loop is scheduled for razing in a downtown rehabilitation program now coming before the Detroit Common Council, and the suburb of River Rouge is thinking of razing the Rouge Theatre for a new civic center.
