General Information:

This restaurant was the brainchild of Robert Metz who opened it in 1957 with financing provided by People's State Bank. It operated for many years and eventually became known as the Shoreham Dining Room. From what I can see, there is now housing built on the former lot as the street name is Holiday House Rd.

From the opening article (full article is posted below):

GOURMETS THE WORLD OVER have learned to search out and find those iewel-rare eating places which happily combine: (1) physical setting, (2) an artistic chef, and (3) an indefinable blend Of hospitality and good-fellowship known as "atmosphere."

These places are hard to find and worth the search. You may find one in a centuries-old inn on the Scottish border in England's lake country; a way-station in Queensland on the edge of Australia's bush country; a coffee house off one of Vienna's narrow twisted streets; or a few miles south of St. Joseph on U. S. Highway 12.

It is the called the Holiday House of Peach Lane Farm, 20 beautifully landscaped acres which run from the highway down to Lake Michigan and frame the rambling white inn and its outbuildings in a setting worthy Of the brush of Jean Baptiste Camille Corot.

A visitor could spend hours wandering through the rooms. Many of the furnishings are heirlooms. The pictures on the walls are great oils, some of them near. masterpieces, which have been in the family of the host for generations.

The food matches the setting: the soup is honest and sturdy, cooked and seasoned to peak flavor; the salads are crisp and colorful. dressed with the famous Holiday House formula; the baked ham is hickory smoked to specification, the beef is the finest obtainable and broiled- or roasted to perfection; the spring chicken is milk-fed, sauteed in butter, baked, and garnished with toasted almonds; and so on through the menu. Specialties include the relish tray, hot rum rolls, and a list Of desserts—including fresh coconut whipped cream pie— which could cause dissolution of the Belt Line Watchers Society.
