This classic diner goes back to the 1950s. Pompeyo's now sits on the lot as of 2025. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant also occupied the spot as shown below. Looking back at the historical aerial photos, it appears the original structure for the drive-in was gone by the early 1970s. I found an ad from 1955 that this drive-in was being offered as a franchise opportunity.

Did you know Alpena had it's very own Drive-ln restaurant? Here it is, Alpena's Starlite Drive-in, from the Besser Museum's photograph collection, taken in 1958. It was located at 1120 S. State Street, offering diners tasty food and a lakeside view from their cars.
