The Washington marquee and lobby are gone, but the theatre is still there. Instead of movies, the Stagecrafters acting group performs there. It's now called the Baldwin Theatre.

I knew Ed Downey. I bought an alto sax from him, but his dad made him get it back. I was an usher at the Washington Theater about the same time as Ed. I remember when Jailhouse Rock was there for a couple of weeks. The girls went wild. I loved to go back stage and dim the lights. I would explore the dressing rooms down stairs, and occasionally play the old beat up grand piano backstage. I loved that place! Anyone know Ed Downey's email?

After submitting my information to you I remembered that Mr. Kimmel was the fatherinlaw of Sam Goldstein the manager.

It was owned by someone named Kimmel and was run by Sam Goldstein. I was an usher there in 1957.
