This shopping center was built in 1955 and there is a shopping center on that property today, although it is not called Miracle Mile. The newer configuration is also totally different. There were several notable developments around this stretch of land. One was the Miracle Mile Drive-In Theater which was amazing in its day. 70MM projectors and a first class build. It's cost was over 700 grand in 1970's dollars.
There was an amazing marquee for the drive-in and the shopping center. The drive-in was behind the center. Later, the Showcase Cinemas showed up on both sides of Telegraph closer to Square Lake Rd. Some believe these displaced the drive-in theater but such was not the case. The failed Bloomfield Park development (see my page on that) displaced the drive-in lot many years later. The Miracle Mile complex had a cool, mid-century look to it.
There is yet another retail development going up as of 2022 in that general vicinity which will include an Aldi's and a Menard's. I am not convinced this will be worth the money being invested. That area has seen many things open up only to later fail. One of the major factors in the drive-in closing was the prevalence of violent crime in that area. Update: I found an article from 1983 (see below) that discusses the center dropping the Miracle Mile name. Too bad, it was the better one.
