Henry G Ritter opened Ritter Recreation in 1938. He had been a cigar box manufacturer for 34 years prior to that. He passed away in 1940. Apparently the alley was going in some fashion until the 1980's. The building still stands as of 2023 and is the headquarters of Habitat for Humanity in Detroit. The front facade of the building looks as though it has been restored but the rear looks original.
