Drag Strips |
|
|
|
Michigan has a rich history in auto racing (of course!) with over 20 active racetracks and several drag strips. Unfortunately, a few of the classic drag strips are
gone. Motor City, Detroit, Onondaga and M-37 to name a few. Back in the day, it was customary to campaign your car on Woodward, Telegraph or Gratiot on Friday and Saturday (sometimes all
in one night!) and then head out to Detroit Dragway on Sunday and do it some more. The smell of nitro was in the air and the cars were ripping loud!
I myself was a Pontiac man (used to get alot of crap from the Mopar, Chevy and Ford crowd) whose dream was to have a car like the 69 Judge here with a Ram Air V from Royal Pontiac.
You could go there and buy motors in the crate from Pontiac that would scream! Instead, I settled for a 73 Grand Am "sleeper" that had a 428 goat motor bored 30 over with Ram Air IV heads!
These were the days when your grandma had a station wagon with a 389 tri-power just to go to the grocery store! We have much more to come in here so keep checking back
once in a while. I know you racers out there have some stuff to help me out - email me at
webmaster@waterwinterwonderland.com and I will put it up!
