Update 6/11/2024: Hello my name is Mike Wray, I lived at Wiltjer's when my father Jim bought it after the fire. I remember wonderful times living there. The people, living on the lake, just lots of fun, and work. Definitely a change from living downstate to moving here, wouldn't change it for anything. I seen your post and thought I would comment. Thanks, Mike Wray
This motel has a tragic history. It goes back to the 1950's or before and was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wiltjer at that time. By the 1980's, the place had changed hands and was being run by William Brondyk and his wife Paula. Tragically, a fire consumed the motel in December of 1985, killing Mr. Brondyk and his son.
Despite the fire in 1985 there were articles in the newspaper archives indicating the motel continued to operate after that. There is not a business operating under this name as of 2023, and the former location is sketchy. An old article listed the place as being at 2549 M-66. That address is not in use today but there are some addresses close to it. I don't feel the structures in the recent aerial photographs match the old postcard but I do believe they are visible on the 1954 aerial.
