The Mona Lisa goes back to 1958 and was an early example of a black-owned motel. It was operated by Ernest Mackey back then. I found an article from 1959 indicating some of the local black hotel/motel owners were disappointed by the fact they weren't getting bookings from black organizations who were holding meetings and conventions in town. The motel is still operating as of 2023.
