The Bombay Motel was opened in June 1956 by Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Nantell. Mrs. Nantell indicated at the time that Bombay was Indian for "Beautiful Bay". There was a fire here in 1974 but the motel remained open. Interestingly, I found a mention of a Bombay Motel in Gladstone going back to 1937. I am not sure if that was an earlier incarnation of this place or not. The motel still stands as of 2023 but Google Maps lists it as being closed. Hopefully it will re-open because there is a nice view of the water from there.
