The first settlers were mostly Scots from Ontario (McLachlin, McLean, McIntyre, etc.), and that accounts for the Scottish name. Organized in 1872 with Alexander McLachlin as its first supervisor, he became its first postmaster on Feb. 18, 1876. The village is under township government. [Named Places - Walter Romig]
