Huron County: it was first called Thompson's Corners, for Francis Thompson, a homesteader, who came here from Ireland in 1861. Kilmanagh, an Irish name, was first used here to describe Shebeon Creek which overflowed each spring. Mr. Thompson became the first postmaster of Kilmanagh on Feb. 11, 1873, holding the office until at least 1884, while the office itself operated until June 15, 1904 [Hey; Gwinn; PO Archives] .
