From Michigan Place Names
Lapeer County: this village on Indian Creek, in Burlington Township, was founded about 1862 by Arden W. Lyrnan. He built its first building, occupying it as a home, store, and post office, of which he became the first postmaster on April 23, 1864. The office was closed on July 1, 1867, but was restored from Oct. 31, 1867, to July 9, 1877, and from Feb. 27, 1878, to date. Incorporated as a village in 1891.
