Crosswinds Shopping Mall started life as Pine Lake Mall in 1974 or so. It originally consisted of 2 long wings and a main anchor building. There was no indoor portion. You would walk between the buildings and all the entrances were lined up. Not a terrible layout. Some of the early stores were Sinbad's Hair Studio, Juliet (women's fashion), Jo-Ann Fabrics, Cunningham Drugs (10,000 Sq Ft, maybe the anchor?), Pant Station, Designs with Light Inc, Dazzle'm, Kitchen Stuff 'n such, Grumet's 4th Dimension, Stuart Gallery, Rock and Bach (record store w/ concert tickets), Haagen-Dazs, Forever Young, Pine Lake Bicycle, Michael's Salon, Pine Lake Mall Arcade, Braytons of Bloomfield (the precursor to Juliet).
Moving on the 1980's there was Jeans Ville, Friday's Restaurant which also had a Comedy Castle within it. Boy do I remember the comedy club craze. Seems like every nondescript bar or pub was being converted to comedy. I went to a bunch and it was booming for a while. I don't see them as much as of 2023 but obviously they're out there. There was also Tony's Shoe Repair, Migdal Jewelers, Hidden Cafe Restaurant, Funtastic Travel, Aristocrat Restaurant, Pelle Italia (women's fashion), and many more.
The switch to Crosswinds Mall branding occurred around 1988 or so.
