The original Reef Motel goes back to the late 50's or early 60's. In 1966, the Clark's and the Willitzer's took over from the original owners. By 1975, Arthur Clark and the owner of the Pinestead Restaurant, Robert Yeiter, hatched the plan that would become Pinestead Reef Resort. They also bought 2 other properties to make the expansion happen. Those were the Pewter Bell Restaurant and Gustely's Sandy Beach Resort.
Like most big projects, there were some hiccups along the way, some financial issues in 1976 and some zoning disputes. Eventually, the problems were ironed out and the result is a nice resort that is fairly massive, with almost 1000 feet of prime frontage on the big water. I have stayed here a few times and found it to be good. The reviews are quite good.
