The 22-unit Cascade was opened in 1952 by Mr. and Mrs. Miedema for $50,000. It started out as 12 units but more rooms were added over the years to increase the capacity to 50 units. The Jack Loeks Company (movie theater operator) bought the place in 1954 as they were building the Woodland Drive-In adjacent to the motel property. A restaurant called the Open Hearth was also added on in 1959 or so. As is often the case with motel/restaurant combos, the restaurant was operated by a 3rd party.
The motel operated for many years but I have a sense that the name changed at some point. Newspaper references ceased appearing under the Cascade name in the late 1960's. Eventually the motel was demolished in the 1990's to make way for what is now a Lowe's Home Improvement Center as of 2023. In the earliest days of the motel, that stretch of road was almost empty, it is now very built up.
