General Information:

A station on the C. & W.M. Railroad in 1885, the village was founded brothers George and Raymond Swigart, who operated the Swigart Land Company. Named for Adelmer J. Wells, who operated a shingle mill on Crystal Lake, and became the first postmaster in 1892. Van Buren Martin built the first cottage. The village was platted in 1908. [Michigan County Atlas]
