This chain was started by Ron Portnoy in 1970 in Taylor MI. The marketing was excellent, the slogan being "Pants Galore the 5 Dollar Store". Portnoy would work with manufactures to buy seconds and excess stock at a discount and sell them cheap to the public. The competitors and manufacturers had a problem with Pants Galore as they felt it devalued the product. At one point there were 13 Detroit-area stores.
By 1975 the chain was running into financial trouble, at one point filing for bankruptcy. The operation went under sometime thereafter.
