Traverse Bay Woolen was started in 1947 by Luther Sanders. Eventually they opened several outlets up north. Ludington, the Soo, Traverse City, Petoskey were a few. There were 12 stores at one point. Financial problems came in the late 1980's when Luther passed away. 6 stores were closed at that time. Sandra Plaga, Luther's daughter, took over the helm in an effort to turn things around in the 1990's. Despite her best efforts, it seems the chain closed down sometime around 2004. The last remaining location in Traverse City is now occupied by a furniture store as of 2022. You can still find their unique apparel on eBay and Etsy.
