Please note that location entries may feature older photos or post card views that may not represent the current appearance, features, addresses, phone numbers, or contact names of the attraction. This site is intended to be a historical as well as current record of various attractions but it is not always possible to have up-to-date information due to the vast number of locations featured here. The Shangri-La goes back to 1941 and was operated by Ernest Cookingham. He passed away in 1962. It was later operated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lewis. The last mention I found in the newspaper archives was from 1975, advertising rooms to rent. Some motels convert to apartments or longer term stays.
Based on the address, the location seems to be right near where Pebble Brook Fun Park was, which has also been wiped out. I have covered that attraction on another entry. There was a notice from 1973 in the newspaper that the property was being annexed. I did find a structure on the historical aerial photograph that is probably the old Shangri-La but it looks pretty small.
