General Information:

Peter Everet Westberg, a former White Castle employee, and Fred A. Simonsen opened Top Hat in Detroit, Michigan in 1955. The chain only contained 12 stores and eventually was sold to Church’s Chicken and Elias Brothers in 1984. There seems to be a few different "Top Hat" restaurants out there that had nothing to do with this small burger chain so I will try not to get confused between them.

Top Hat Hamburgers had another location in Detroit at the SW corner of 8 Mile Road and Ryan Road. My father owned the drug store (Danis Drug Store) across the street from Top Hat in the late 50's and early 60's. I know the Top Hat was still in business at the time I left Detroit in 1972.

There was a Top Hat Hamburger located in Roseville on the Southwest corner of Gratiot Ave. and Twelve Mile Road

There was a Top Hat location at the southwest corner of Gratiot and 12 mile Rd. in Roseville, but it''s been gone many years now. Are there any locations still open?

I was born and raised in Roseville, do not remember a Top Hat at Gratiot and 14 1/2 Mile. But went to a Top Hat at 12 mile and Gratiot in Roseville Many, Many times.
